In turns funny, reflective, and moving, “A River in a Drought Is Still a River: On Not Running” follows Dani Couture’s eight years as runner, from the day she took up the hobby to the months when a series of injuries forced her to stop — at least temporarily. In the essay, Dani discusses how the practice of running — and the sudden cessation of that practice — affected her creative life, as it's affected so many others.

This chapbook is a hand-made, limited edition publication. Only 100 have been bound. Each is twenty-four pages in length, and features interior black and white images.

Dani Couture is the author of three collections of poetry and the novel Algoma. Her work has been nominated for the Trillium Award for Poetry, received an honour of distinction from the Writers’ Trust of Canada’s Dayne Ogilvie Prize for Emerging LGBTQ Writers and won the ReLit Award for Poetry. Her poems have appeared in publications in Canada, the US and the UK, and in several editions of Best Canadian Poetry in English.
